The collapse of soviet communism led to dislocation of the soviet union, scapped by an ideological, political and economic crisis. This in turn precipitated the break up of the empire. The fall of the soviet union come into place when Gorbachev take control of the soviets republic. Gorbachevs comes to power in soviet union seeks to end cold war tensions. He signs arms control treaties, pull troops out of Afghanistan, call for Glasnost or openness policy and restructures soviets government and economy under Perestroika.Perestroika eliminated the monopoly that the ministry of foreign trade had once held on most trade operations. Some free market elements were added, but not enough to bring about reform. These results in failed businesses, but shortages became common as price controls were kept place. This move also allowed private business ownership, something that hadnt been allowed in decades. The idea of Glasnost allowed greater media freedom but the reality of those changes were, perhaps a little disappointing. Complains were brought up that Gorbachevs reform wer too slow, too mild, that more radical measures were needed to lift the country out of its economic slump. The policy of Glasnost was another cause of the fall of soviet union. This policy allowed honesty in discussing the problems and shortcomings of the country, and for the consultation in the governing leadership of the USSR.This policy backfired as the public learned of long standing pliyical cover ups revealing past and recent atrocities missteps by leadership, social and health failures of the USSR and the true extent of national economic problem. The stagnant economy was also a cause of the fall of the soviet union. This was a result of failed economic policies.Which means a failure to respond timely to continuos changes while thwarting innovation. Thus, it can be said that the above policies has led to the down fall of the soviet union.
