[Since it is desirable for trainees to become good teachers of itaukei language, it is very important to prepare them holistically, especially on various aspects concerning the itaukei, that can be lost, if we do not strive or make an effort to do something about it now. An aim of this unit is for the trainees to write a short story or drama about their encounter in their daily experiences.
Gathering of information will be carried out in this course as there is a need to record everything that can be written, published and preserved. This will encourage the trainees to do more research, read and write more in their own language.
This unit aims to further develop an in-depth linguistic knowledge in iTaukei language and its various uses in the iTaukei literacy writing. It provides a critical indigenous framework to do in-depth research, analyze and report academically on their language with a focus on meaning. Trainees will further develop critical reading, creative thinking and writing skills. It allows trainees to gain more insights into the issues and challenges concerning the iTaukei language and its use in iTaukei writing.

To further enhance the learning experiences, this unit also provides an opportunity for trainees to visit historical sites, the Fiji Museum village sites well known for iTaukei artefacts such as pottery and iTaukei Institutions to gain more in-depth knowledge of the resources and avenues available to help them in their teaching and give them the appreciation and pride to take ownership of their own language and literacy writing, traditional and cultural experiences.]
