The unit includes an assessment of how climate change could fisheries and aquaculture. It will also look at projected effects of global warming on surface , the ocean, fish habitats, fish stocks and aquaculture production across Pacific Island countries. It also looks at some recommendations on adaptations and policies that should enable governments and communities to reduce the threats of climate change to fisheries and aquaculture. This unit allows students to be able to understand the renewable resources: exploitable and potential biological resources (finfish and shellfish, seaweeds, seagrasses); Exploitation of coral reefs and their impact. Importance of Mangrove Ecosystems: Importance, their role as coastal buffer zone and as breeding habitats for shellfish and finfish; conservation and management. Small-scale fisheries (pelagic, demersal and shrimps) by traditional/marginal fishing communities. This unit also looks at some mitigation measures that that addresses climate change.
