1.1 Course Description
The purpose of this unit is to provide basic concepts in chemistry, needed by those who will continue to study chemistry at tertiary level. This unit is concerned in further broadening of knowledge of the specified major patterns of chemical behavior and understanding these patterns according to various chemical principles. Basic concepts in thermochemistry, electrochemistry, acid - base chemistry, transition metals and diversity of organic compounds shall be discussed.
In the delivery of this unit, emphasis will be placed on the conduct of practical experiment and demonstration of safe and accurate use of apparatus and chemicals, developing skills in using scientific methods of solving problems, understanding of common chemical principles and their application to a range of everyday situation and technology.
