This course is designed to provide students with a strong theoritical foundation on the concepts of health promotion and the social determinants of health and to consider how they may apply in Pacific communities. the practice of
• To identify and review the theoretical frameworks upon which health promotion has developed.
• To understand the content and intent of the various international charters for health promotion, specifically the Declaration of Alma Ata, the Ottawa Charter and the WHO and Pacific Region Healthy Islands initiatives.
• To be aware of the difficulties in evaluating health promotion campaigns, and the need to identify feasible and measurable objectives.
