The Course revisits and introduces participants to theories and major trends in methods, approaches, techniques, assumptions and issues on nature of language and how it is acquired and taught. Participants are made aware of shifting scenes of teaching methods over the decades and theoretical groundings that have informed various practices. The course also briefly looks at status of English as a global language and what this entails in terms of World Englishes. Course components include the four macro language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Information technology is discussed as a learning tool and how it could be utilized to enhance teaching and learning. Lesson planning and assessment of language skills are also covered in this course, and participants would be engaged in more hands-on experiences with preplanned inquiry - based and task-based activities.
