Research is an important skill for specialists in education. It contributes to areas of education including pedagogy, socio-cultural foundations, methods, assessment and evaluation, policy, educational leadership, diversity, and curriculum. Specialists in education apply the technical skills of research to gather information that will inform policy design and implementation, and contribute to the improvement of education and schooling. Philosophical debates about paradigms, methodologies and tools are covered. The first part addresses some of the critical philosophical issues that underlie and inform research in education. It will include a critical evaluation of different paradigms, methodologies and methods. The second part focuses on the preparation of the research proposal- topic, aims and objectives, literature methodology and implementation plans.
