This course will introduce students to different psychological disorders as classified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th Edition (DSM-V). Various explanations and perspectives pertaining to psychological disorders will be analyzed. Further, several psychological disorders will be described pertaining to its characteristics, etiology, and application of evidence-based counselling approaches as interventions. Students will also be able to reflect upon these disorders, mental health and well-being generally as well as from a Pasifika context. Note: The psychological disorders taught in this course have been aligned to DSM-V classifications. The course coordinator has the responsibility to review any material pertaining to changes in future editions of DSM, reflect any changes and align it to course material.
