This is the second practicum course under the Bachelor of Education Secondary program. This course aims to develop the teaching competencies that trainee teachers need to acquire to enable them to perform during their 2nd and final teaching practice. The teacher’s role is critical to the development and achievement of learners in the 21st century thus teachers should be made aware of current best practices and continuously update themselves with latest trends and patterns of learning and teaching that influence the classroom practice. These knowledge and skills will empower the trainee teachers on what is expected of them if they were to practice teaching in any assigned upper secondary classroom in Fiji. Teaching in the 21st century becomes a very daunting task considering the range of experiences that learners bring to the learning environment and overarching demands and expectations of the different interest groups. Quality teachers are the major determinants of quality teaching and thus will contribute effectively to quality education. The unit will require students to practice in a designated high school for a period of 8 weeks (Workplace Attachment) that will be home based where students will be assessed by the Assistant Teachers (AT) and Practicum Assessors (PA). The main focus of the second practicum will be on the upper secondary of Years 11, 12 and 13. The weighting for this industrial attachment is 100%.
