The purpose of this course is to provide information on: Parasites and parasitism; host- parasite relationship; mode of transmission of parasites; tissue reactions caused by parasites and host; immcoursey against parasitic infections; general description and classification of helminth parasites affecting domestic animals and birds; characteristics of Phylums Platyhelminthes, Nemathelminthes and Acanthocephala; salient morphological features and life cycle in relation to transmission, pathogenesis, epidemiology, and diagnosis; general control measures of the following helminthes of animals and birds: Trematodes: Liver flukes, intestinal flukes, blood flukes, Amphistomes, lung flukes and oviduct flukes.
Cestodes: Ruminant tape worms , dog tape worms , equine tape worms , poultry tape worms and broad fish tape worm (Diphyllobothrium).
Nematodes: Ascarid worms of cattle, horses, pigs and poultry; bursate worms; kidney worms; hook worms; stomach worms; tissue round worms; filarial worms; lung worms and guinea worms.
