The course covers the domestication, origin of poultry production and management, classification of chickens and ducks; history of poultry development in Fiji and Pacific Region, breeds, strains, and crosses of chickens and ducks mostly used in Pacific region; poultry housing systems, equipment and appliances; feed and feeding chickens; incubation, hatching of chicks and ducklings, brooding, rearing chicks and ducklings; management of laying flocks, parent stock and broiler chickens; evaluation of poultry farm bio-security measures / disease prevention and control measures; common poultry diseases affecting chickens and ducks, economics of producing poultry eggs and meat.
